Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 (MSS 2010) and Windows SharePoint Services 4.0 (WSS 4.0) Features
This is an unofficial SharePoint Office 14 wave features list we've been gathering from the internet. Different sources will be annotated in a future edit of this post.
Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 (MSS 2010) Features
1. SliverLight control for editing Microsoft Office 2010 documents in Internet Explorer. Status: Unconfirmed.
2. Interoperability with other CMS systems. Status: Confirmed.
3. Implementation of Office Ribbon interface for SharePoint. Status: Confirmed.
4. Inline editing of SharePoint lists - no need to switch to data sheet view. Status: Confirmed.
5. No Support for Internet Explorer 6.0 or lower. Status: Confirmed.
6. 64 bit only - requires x64 Windows, SQL. Status: Confirmed:
7. Windows Server 2008 only installation base. Status: Unconfirmed.
8. Master Data Management - allows for the aggregation and collection of all Enterprise Data (stored in other MS applications) by SharePoint. Status: Unconfirmed.
9. Microsoft Office Web Access - allows for OWA type functionality except with Microsoft Office 2010 documents. Status: Rumor
10. Enhanced support for forms based authentication and single sign on. Status: Unconfirmed.
11. SQL tables as SharePoint lists. Status: Unconfirmed.
12. New import/export functionality. Status: Unconfirmed.
13. Push / Pull model for the BDC. Status: Unconfirmed.
Windows SharePoint Services 4.0 (WSS 4.0) Features
1. AD Account Creative Mode removed. Status: Confirmed.
2. Web parts will use a control (.ascx) to make them compatible with a visual editor. Status: Confirmed.
3. XLST will now be supported for list views with conditional formatting and this can be done using SharePoint Designer. These will replace existing list views - FYI this might be an upgrade issue if you have developed custom CAML queries. Status Confirmed.
4. SharePoint Workspace Manager is what is becoming of Groove. Enhanced support for distributed SharePoint data and offline capabilities for those running the Groove client on their PC's. Status: Confirmed.
5. Web.config files will be overwritten in all upgrade scenarios, or application of KB's. You will lose any and all customization. This is unconfirmed so back them up anyways. Status: Unconfirmed.
6. Do not create custom workflow actions in the wss.actions file. These will be removed. Status: Confirmed.
7. Both WSS and MOSS will feature an in-line AJAX based editor for list items that does not require datasheet view. Status: Confirmed June 16, 2009!
8. Cross browser support - enhanced support for non-Microsoft browsers such as FireFox and Safari by using more controls and techniques that are browser independent, or that rely on SilverLight plug-in. Status: Confirmed.
